
Korean Canadian flutist Eleanor Song is a Toronto-based flutist known for her expressive artistry
and technical proficiency. Pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance degree, she is
under the tutelage of Kelly Zimba Lukić, principal flutist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
She has also had the greatest privilege of working with renowned musicians such as Stephen
Tam, Miles Haskins, Leslie Newman, Izabella Budai, and Jennifer Kong. Eleanor is also the
recipient of the Arthur Plettner Scholarship, James Craig Opera Orchestra Award, and the title
of Long & McQuade’s “Most Promising Young Flutist.”
A passionate ensemble performer, Eleanor is currently a member of the Toronto Symphony
Youth Orchestra (TSYO) led by Trevor Wilson. During her time in this ensemble, she has had
the honour of performing in venues such as Roy Thomson Hall and George Weston Recital Hall
alongside her colleagues. She was also featured as a radio guest interviewee on The New
Classical FM’s series Sunday Night at the TSO, in collaboration with Kathleen Kajioka, where
they discussed the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra’s preparation for their first concert of the
2024-2025 season. Eleanor has also had the opportunity to perform in several ensembles at the
University of Toronto including the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble that are
respectively led by Uri Mayer and Dr. Gillian MacKay. She also enjoys performing in ensembles,
including flute and guitar duos, flute, clarinet and piano trios, and woodwind quintets. In 2023,
she partnered with guitarist James Baker to form the Meraki Duo. The pair plans to present
several recitals in the spring of 2025.
Eleanor is always actively looking to develop her playing and has attended masterclasses at the
University of Toronto led by Julien Beaudiment, principal flutist of the l’ Opera Nationale de
Lyon, Flute Center of Chicago with John Thorne, and at Orford Musique where she studied with
Lorna McGhee and Dr. Alexa Still.
Eleanor likes to give back to the music community by teaching young musicians at Yamaha
Music School where she aims to inspire and build their confidence. She has also volunteered as
a woodwind teaching assistant at Sohrae Youth Orchestra from 2021. Eleanor continues to
make a significant impact in the Toronto music scene, dedicated to both her performance career
and her ongoing development as a teaching artist.
